An-Laurence Higgins is a Montreal-based guitarist dedicated to new music. She holds a degree in classical guitar performance from the University of Montreal, works as a solo performer as well as an ensemble musician, and has performed as a soloist, chamber musician and improviser across Quebec and Ontario. An-Laurence loves to create with composers, and has collaborated with various artists such as Thais Montanari, Maxime Daigneault and Lieke van der Voort to create works with electronics, theatrics and video elements. She won the WRCMS Contemporary Performance Prize in 2017 and the 1st Prize in solo performance at the Concours de Victoriaville.
Active in the new music scene and community, An-Laurence is an alumna of Toronto Creative Music Lab, Laboratoire de Musique Contemporaine de Montréal, Waterloo Region Contemporary Music Sessions and the Domaine Forget. As of 2017, she became an organizer for the Montreal Contemporary Music Lab, an artist-run program providing an experimental space for emerging musicians to create and thrive.
Recent performances include a solo recital for the Ottawa Guitar Society’s Young Artists Series as well as a guest artist performance at the Waterloo Contemporary Music in 2018. Upcoming performances in 2019 include the creations of new pieces composed for the Class Axe workshop run by the Canadian Music Center in Montreal and a solo performance at the 21C guitar festival in Ottawa. An-Laurence will also perform in the all-women composers concert Émergences (f. pl.), which she organizes and produces.
